Our first DJ of the week in 2017 is Nikhil Sharma, who is WCNU Radio’s Technical Director and a man whose insistence on arctic temperatures in the station is practical and required but bordering on obsessive. Nikhil joined WCNU Radio in his sophomore year at CNU and began his show, “The Oddity Hour” his second semester of freshman year. Before coming to CNU, Nikhil did not have any experience with radio other than as a listener. It was his friend and fellow Eboard member, Jack Filiault who introduced Nikhil to WCNU Radio and after listening to one show he had decided to join.

Nikhil’s show was originally titled, “Weird Niche Stuff” but was renamed to “The Oddity Hour” after a long discussion with his co-host Jack Filiault. On Nikhil’s show, he is in charge of music selection and tends to favor playing indie folk along with rock. The format of “The Oddity Hour” follows with Nikhil playing a song that Jack is unfamiliar with and the two discuss the song and the band with Nikhil explaining aspects of the bands with online research. For the Spring semester of 2017 “The Oddity Hour” is on air from 3-4pm on Fridays.
After joining WCNU Radio as a DJ, Nikhil was approached by the President at the time, Zach Whitten, about joining Eboard. Nikhil did not require much convincing and soon after submitted his application to be WCNU Radio’s new Technical Director. His application was a success and he learned much about WCNU Radio from Zach Whitten before Zach graduated and Nikhil took up the reins.
Nikhil is a brother of Alpha Phi Omega while also being a member of several clubs along with WCNU Radio like Captain to Captain (which is a silent disease support group) and Blue Crew (on which he serves as Vice President). Nikhil is also double majoring in Computer Science and Math along with these organizations and interned with the company SWIFT during the summer before the 2016-2017 academic year. He is currently searching for internships and jobs in the Hampton Roads and Newport News area to stay near campus during the summer.
